The Romans did a lot of things right - and apparently pizza was one of the many. Spartico is all about the crisp, classic Roman-style pies cooked up in their on-site, Milanese wood-burning oven. Garlic bread, comes from the same oven, and it's a pungent, doughy treat worth the extra calories. Guests to this Coconut Grove outpost can add a whole host of gourmet options to their particular pie, including Porcini mushrooms, Italian fennel sausage, artichokes, ricotta cheese, sundried tomatoes and arugula. They also serve up pasta, salads and classic Italian dishes like veal Milanese and eggplant parmigiana. So snag a seat at their charming bar and watch the oven at work. When in Rome.

The smell of garlic, tomatoes, and smoldering cheese accosts the senses inside Spartico at the Mayfair Hotel, located in Coconut Grove. Chef/restaurateur Jonathan Eismann consulted on the original launch, and chef Philippe Boutinet manages the kitchen, where "Roman pizza" is made in an "Ambrogi wood-burning oven from Milan" (do they not manufacture ovens in Rome?). In addition to turning out crisp, classic pies, the restaurant has a homestyle Italian menu of items ranging from overflowing... More »
