A new exhibition of works by Carlene Frances, Karen Scharer, Patricia Aaron and Ian McLaughlin.
Denver photographer Randall Bellows sometimes works through life changes with images he’s gone on to show in galleries here and in New York. But this time, he’s chosen a more dramatic route: Bellows looked around and decided he needed to see the... More »
When Sarah Fox began Fox Art School in 2010, she wanted to fill what she saw as a hole in the arts community. "I have a background in art education and I was really missing it," says Fox, who at that ... More »

Up front at Space Gallery is an impressive solo, William Stoehr: Icons, which comprises large portraits done in a wildly expressionist style. Stoehr blows up women's faces to gigantic proportions using an action-painting approach, smearing the... More »
Some art pieces force viewers to look closer at reality, but others help them escape into something new. Space Gallery will be exhibiting some of the latter tonight with Translucence, a show featuring new work from Sophia Dixon Dillo and Jane... More »
Two separate themes connected the artists in The Other Primary Colors, a group show at Space Gallery. First, as indicated by the title, all of them used neutral shades. And second, they all created pieces in the context of contemporary abstraction, with everything owing a debt to either minimalism or pattern painting. Guest curator for this show was Marks Aardsma (who dropped her first name, Jo, for the outing), who invited a wonderful roster of fellow travelers to join her in the realm of... More »
It's not that easy to put together a coherent show with the works of two artists with distinct sensibilities, but Space Gallery definitely hit the mark with Dissection & Deregulation: Michael Burnett and Lewis McInnis. Michael Burnett, who owns Space, put his own pared-down compositions featuring repeated motifs alongside the smeary geometric abstractions that are the signature style of Lewis McInnis. Though the two artists take different approaches, both refer to patterning and... More »
Event Review: Dia de los Muertos Festival
Tell your friends (those with money), tell your family (those you can tolerate) – Firework Brain Productions is live and taking Denver by storm (like a Golden Girls marathon…….times 17)!!
We would like to cordially invite you to Firework Brain’s Denver debut performance of,
Dia de los Muertos :
Denver’s Black & Red Party
On November 1st, Firework Brain Productions proudly presents The Black and Red Party !!
Draped in the spirit and themes of Dia de los Muertos, Space Gallery, in the heart of Santa Fe’s Arts District, will play host to Denver's first interactive, red carpet arts show featuring some of the city's most creative and diverse talent – including burlesque dancers , female impersonators, aerial acrobatic artists, live music and a whole host of visual artists to greet you in our front gallery. To make sure we titillate all of your senses, we will be serving light appetizers, including chile rellenos, which you can pair with chili sauces made by local grower and vendor Hardpan Horticulture . We will also be featuring some very unique (and spicy!) jams, graciously provided by Modern Gingham Preserves .
Dia De Los Muertos is a 2,000 years-long Latin American tradition, with its roots in a month-long Aztec celebration honoring the goddess of the dead. The festival today is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd in the most flamboyant and colorful of ways, with gatherings of friends and family to honor and celebrate the lives of those who have passed.
As your emcees incarnate for the evening, we have the pleasure to announce the sinfully blond-at-heart Jacquoi LaRouge (Jackie to her friends), and presenting for his first time on a 5280 stage, Carlos Alejandro. Mr. Alejandro and Ms. LaRouge (no ring on this girls finger) are thrilled to make you laugh till you cry and accompany you through this circus of an evening.
And what is a party without music!? To greet you for the evening, DJ Hex will be opening our house with his nationally famous spinning fingers! Carlos & Jackie have a penchant for the theatrical (of all persuasions) so joining us on the stage will be Frenchie Renard Lucy Britches and Autumn Flaunt’em, who will take you into the world of the vintage art of Burlesque – the REAL thing, not just sequined skirts, and flying pearls! These bubbly outrageous ladies will transport you to times of yore when the fun was in the tease (oh the good old days). We will also be featuring a mélange of circus artists including Denver’s own aerial fabrics acrobat, Miss Nadja Tizer and her team with Firebird Moving Arts who will twirl colors as they perform mid-air yoga ballet which will both amaze and make you need to catch your breath! As we wind down into those midnight hours and you order one more (even though you told yourself you wouldn’t) of those delicious, jalapeño-infused tequila cocktails, DJ Dalco will romance your ears with hard notes, big bass and soulful sounds
Black & Red will present the traditional motifs of the Muertos carnival tradition, while adding modern interpretations to create something truly unique. Join us Thursday, November 1st , for an evening of a full range of artistic interpretations on Muertos through both music & dance as well as visual & fine arts. Tickets will include the finest of wine, beer, as well as appetizers from south of the Rio Grande.
Doors open at 8pm, at which time we invite you to savor fabulous food, meet and see some of Denver’s most talented artists, and strut the red carpet with Carlos & Jackie!
Tickets are only $25 pre-sale (wine, beer and food included!!) and $30 at the door
(Unfortunately we are unable to admit guests under 21)

One of my favorite gallery spaces in Denver. I wish I could actually live here. Industrial and always a young, hip scene who loves art.
