Something of a modern miracle, Sophie's is the first Cuban-style lunch counter created in more than decade, striking a blow against the franchises striving to dominate Chambers Street. Snacks like yuca croquettes and empanadas are displayed in the front window for carryout, or sit down for a Cuban sandwich or the Iberian throwback camarones al ajillo, shrimp in a pungent garlic sauce.
I'm quite fond of the traditional Cubano. The atmosphere is nothing special, but the sandwiches are very tasty.
