Where else but this retro burger stand are Orange County denizens going to get a milkshake brought right to their car, by a car hop, on a cute little tray that attaches right to the car door? Despite its modern-leaning TV commercials, Sonic works hard to maintain a classic American Graffiti vibe at its restaurants, and, in fact, its founder, Troy N. Smith Sr., Jr. was a pioneer of the car-hop concept in Oklahoma back in the 1950s, employing "jukebox boys" to wire his speakers for sound. These days Sonic sets itself apart from other chains with a wide-ranging menu including sweet tea, a foot-long Cheese Coney, and the ever-popular Chili-Cheese fries.
