Smith & Wollensky defines steak-house chic. Since 1997, the southernmost restaurant in Miami Beach has offered an oak-and-marble interior, celebrity dining clientele, and a prodigious wine selection. Located in South Pointe Park, and beautiful even before its $22 million makeover, the place boasts a steady flow of pedestrian traffic and unparalleled energy and ambiance. This is not tense, stiff-necked fine dining; you can relax, people-watch, and enjoy your meal. Massive cruise ships and sea-bound freighters float past as you are treated to attentive two-waiter service. The meal begins with lightly oiled and seasoned dinner rolls with butter. Follow with a salad topped in fresh, thick dressing, and then revel in the spiritual experience that is velvety-smooth, delicious New York-style sirloin. Waterfront dining, a breezy outdoor bar, world-renowned dry-aged beef cured and butchered in-house, a cigar humidor, food made from scratch daily - this is the steak house against which all others should be measured.

Great old traditional steakhouse with a great view of the Government Cut where the Cruise ships go in and out. Pricey, but the quality, view, and the fact that you can still get a good cigar here, make it worth it.
Always a stable in NYC, SOBE, Chicago, Vegas, actually my fav food is the split pea soup with a great sirloin steak and a bottle of La Crema from their great wine selection getting hungry just thinking about it. Also kudos to their staff who treat you like family at every location.
Very nice, upscale and traditional atmosphere. Indoor/Outdoor seating - the outside area is right over the water: amazing ocean view.
This veteran steak house may look stiff and formal, and the patrons may appear stuffy and overfed. But if you think that's all there is to this place, then you haven't been downstairs and outside, where an oceanfront bar serves a group of regulars who arrive in shorts and, well, usually leave in them, too. A big destination for South Beach restaurant-industry personnel, here many of the patrons and staff are on a first-name, first-serve basis. Indeed in the best of traditions, this is the... More »
You'd think that in South Florida the contenders for this award would be many and formidable. Sorry. You'd also think waterfront dining would be at least as common as overpriced sushi. Sorry again. And while there are a few nice places to eat outdoors on the street or the water (river and ocean), why not go for it all -- ocean views, major people-watching, and seriously good food. For instance, try Smith & Wollensky's outdoor dining area on a Sunday afternoon. Every body shape that can be... More »
Bad news for wine-loving vegetarians. Most of Miami's best wine lists are in restaurants that cater to carnivores. This year's best is no exception. It's the popular and pricey New York import Smith & Wollensky. They've got some 350 very drinkable choices, and a mind-blowing inventory of more than 14,000 bottles. Out of necessity the neatly stacked bottles make up the primary décor of the restaurant. They are everywhere: in a second-floor cellar, in bins behind the bar, lined up on... More »
