Smalley's Caribbean Barbeque and Pirate Bar is the collaboration of Shawn Smalley, a former La Belle Vie cook and his longtime boss, the restaurant's esteemed chef/co-owner Tim McKee. Smalley's is McKee's first foray into casual fare, an island-esque bar that attempts to replicate true Jamaican jerk barbeque--all the way down to its pimento wood fires. True to its pirate nature, some of Smalley's dishes are like discovering buried treasure, others like walking the plank. While the barbeque doesn't always find the right flavor/moisture balance, a patio seat with a smoked chicken sandwich (the bun is branded with a skull and crossbones!) and a grapefruit-rum cocktail is one of the best ways to pass a Stillwater evening.
