Description

Sloan’s is mint-green on the outside, pink on the in, and packed with feather boas, toys, and an operational choo-choo train. The pink brick walls and polka-dotted booths are whimsical; the bathroom, legendary. (Featuring see-through doors that fog up when you enter, the loo's been the subject of a Travel Channel show.) Since opening more than a decade ago, Sloan's has spawned three satellite locations. Decadent flavors on tap have included Apple Pie and Circus (cotton candy flavor with gummy bears), and the last time we popped in, our sundae was served in a flower pot with crumbled-up Oreo "soil." Honestly, though, Sloan's could make its ice cream out of cod liver oil and we're sure it would taste delicious. Nothing could ever be bad here.

  • 2008 | Best Ice Cream Parlor

In the bestselling children's book Madeline, our dear protagonist lived in a Paris boarding house covered in vines. In her world -- full of adventures and classmates and nuns -- nothing was ever really so bad, although she might encounter a case of appendicitis here, a roving band of gypsies there, and perhaps have a standoff with a misbehaving tiger at the zoo. We like to think -- nay, we are certain -- that if Madeline lived in West Palm Beach circa 2008, Sloan's Ice... More »

  • 2006 | Best Cheap Thrill in Palm Beach

Sloan's is an amazing sensory experience, with its hot-pink walls, giant lollipops, miniature choo-choo train, 47 flavors of ice cream, and toys, toys, toys! But the most amazing part is the bathrooms -- which have clear glass doors that look right in to the throne. When you venture in and turn the door handle, however, the glass fogs up and becomes completely opaque. An investigation by the Travel Channel -- which named this the tenth best bathroom in the entire world -- revealed that the... More »

  • 2001 | Best Ice Cream

Even the bathrooms at this neon-color monument to all things fattening are deliciously tempting. People flock to the lime green-and-orange ice cream parlor to dare friends and strangers to step behind the clear glass doors of the bathrooms, which are in full view of those waiting in line for their favorite confection. Luckily for those who prefer to keep some parts of their lives private, a mere flip of the switch activates liquid crystals, making the transparent walls safely opaque. The... More »

A lot of patrons frequent Sloan's (112 Clematis St., West Palm Beach, 561-833-3335) for its roughly 30 flavors of gourmet ice cream. Some like to check out the four shades of sorbet, the three types of yogurt, or the soup of the day. And a few eve... More »
