If you want to play on some smooth felt without needing a stack of quarters, this is a good place to go. There are several throughout Houston. The main difference between each location, that I've noticed, is the music selection/DJ. Depending on which one you go to, the music may not be at all to your tastes. There's usually a lively crowd, however, which makes it easy to socialize with others. Their drinks are a bit overpriced and their beer selection is poor. Actually it's all a bit pricey, but when you're jonesing for a good pool game, it's a hard place to beat.
There aren't too many places competing for the Best Pool Hall in town, but among the few, none match up to Slick Willie's. Houston has about a dozen locations, but our favorite is no doubt the one in the heart of Montrose, where there are more than 20 big, solid and clean tables. If you're just an every-now-and-again player used to shooting on that wobbly little thing at your favorite dive bar, the game at Slick Willie's will take some adjustment. Sure, sure, we don't like to praise the chain outlets, but this really is the best pool hall in town, and we're not just saying that because we get a kick out of the irony of a place called Slick Willie's being stationed right across the street from the girl bar: Twenty-three of the big-boy pool tables (and one of the super big boys) are scattered about this clean, quiet, reasonably priced lair that, even though it's in the gayborhood, is populated by people who like their sticks and balls...
