Welcome to the "sidecountry": A single lift takes you part of the way to Silverton Mountain's seemingly endless powder stash, but you'll be hoofing it in guided groups to get to the goods from there. Avalanche gear is mandatory and available to rent, and you'll want to break out your big boards. Silverton is simply amazing. Don't go there expecting your typical ski resort (no lodge here, just a small hut at the base). And be prepared to hike! You'll get above 13,000 ft and ride some of the steepest terrain in Colorado. And definitely do the heli drop. A single drop is $159 and worth every penny. Easily one of the best experiences I've ever had on a mountain.
