Boasting retro-futuristic swank, a relaxed upscale vibe, and a staggering selection of beer and wine, the always-stylish SideBar has become one of downtown Phoenix's premier drinking destinations. Perched on the upper floor of the historic brick building that once housed the Emerald Lounge and the original location of the Lost Leaf, the spot features a swinging '60s cocktail vibe and décor that was mapped out by renowned designer Judith Testani (of Olive & Ivy fame). A mix of mid-century retro and more modern elements -- including the programmable light wall and Paul Christiansen-like ceiling lamps -- SideBar's digs are matched in beauty by the precision cocktails served at the funky-looking illuminated bar. Try such tasty concoctions as the White Rabbit and the Psychedelic and see if you agree.
This is my favorite bar. The bartenders are amazing. Well, I lied. Honestly, the female bartenders make better drinks. Not joking! I am sorry, lone male bartender.
Every drink is great, they have an amazing beer and wine list. My only gripe is that I cannot have their whiskeyberry sour anymore due to gluten intolerance.
I can dream, though.
Love SideBar! They make great drinks and have such an amazing ambiance. Great place for a date, or getting together with friends.
Great atmosphere, great drinks. The people who own this place are great at hosting special events and drink deals.

Wearing an evening gown, top hat, or a monocle in public is tricky -- unless you’re going to some sort of steampunk-themed fete or an Oscar party. Even if an event has a formal dress code, pulling off a monocle without looking like Mr. Peanut or... More »
What's one to do on a Sunday night in downtown Phoenix? Going to bed early and vegging out seems like an appealing option, but by staying in, you'd miss all the fun Retro Hi-Fi at Sidebar has to offer... More »
Yes, that is half of a lime, muddled and resting at the bottom of your frosty, salted glass. And trust us, a good amount of lime makes all the difference in this Mexican cocktail. A margarita at this retro (and very metro), dimly lit uptown bar will run you $6 -- order one during happy hour (Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.) and it's $4. The semi-charming (also very metro) bartender pours a heavy-yet-smooth combination of Jose Cuervo Gold, triple sec, and fresh lime juice that he... More »
It's been just shy of two years since this cool downtown Phoenix lounge opened, yet we can't remember what our lives were like before we had such a comfy, warmhearted spot to stop for a drink. SideBar owner Josh Parry wanted to create a landmark cocktail lounge that's both a hot neighborhood gathering place and a cozy everyone-knows-your-name throwback to clubs of yesteryear. He's done it!Did we mention the cocktail menu? Smashing. We love the White Rabbit, an update on the Horchata martini... More »
We've long been fans of horchata, the delightful, delectable Mexican rice milk. But even our affection for that sweet drink did nothing to prepare us for the joys of the White Rabbit, an horchata-based cocktail at the downtown hotspot SideBar. A sweet yet never cloying mixture of horchata, Frangelico, and White Godiva liqueur, the White Rabbit is served in a giant "up" glass with a sugar rim -- kind of like the adult version of the last sweet drops of milk in your bowl after a breakfast... SideBar is so elegant, and has so much bon vie, that when we first walked in, we couldn't believe we were standing over a Pei Wei on West McDowell Street. Believe it. The best new bar in the Valley is a happy, social, stylish place -- a place where you're just as likely to run into an old friend as make a new one. And don't even get us started on the cocktail list. Every drink on this menu is a gem, from the Cucumint Martini to the Lynwood Palmer. We recommend coming early and staying... More »
