    For a bathroom stop while jogging on the beach in Santa Monica, the obvious choice is to either (1) stand in line at the city's artsy new public stalls designed by Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects; or (2) turn due west across the sand and work up the nerve to wade into the cold ocean before time runs out.     If friends come to visit, I'd recommend Shutters on the Beach. Classy on the beach, close to where I live in the Palisades.

    It has a great restaurant and a great atmosphere. It’s not in the hustle and bustle of L.A., but you’re in a good location to get to everything. I wish we had more hotels in Los Angeles that were on the water – that have the view and you could walk out to the beach. Being on the ocean is always good. I would check ahead to the time of year you want to be here. I think it’s more fun when it’s less busy because their lobby is very friendly. They have a fireplace going in one spot and you can see the ocean. You can sit on a patio deck.

    Shutters is cool. They are good to us. With my size (I’m 6’7, 350 pounds), amenities are essential for rooms. You’ve got to have comfortable beds and spacious rooms. I really want to stretch out, and I really want to enjoy myself.
