Description

This Kendall sushi joint always draws a crowd, no doubt because of its magnificent food, enchanting service, and homey atmosphere. Unagi, California rolls, shrimp, salmon, and tuna are all beautifully prepared. Teriyaki, katsu, stir fry, sukiyaki, and tempura dinners all are also excellent. And you have a choice between traditional American seating downstairs or Japanese-style on the floor at intimate tables upstairs, where you can also sit at the sushi bar. End your meal with homemade azuki bean ice cream ($2.95) or key lime pie ($3.95), which demolish preconceived notions of Japanese desserts. Shibui is definitely doing something very, very right.

You can afford to visit Shibui whenever the raw-fish fancy strikes. The family-owned restaurant, which opened in 1981 just north of Sunset Drive in Kendall, serves teriyaki, tempura, katsu, sukiyaki, and stir-fry dinners along with sushi (and some in tandem with it via combo plates). More than three dozen rolls are offered, many of which are now-familiar American fusions such as the volcano (salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber topped with cooked conch, mayo, and masago) and the... I have been to this restaurant like 5 times and they always exceed my expectations. The best part is the second floor where you are able to sit on the floor. The second best part is that they have a HUGE menu, so for all you non sushi eaters, like my anal friends, don't hesitate to pass by and enjoy a cooked meal!

One of my favorite places to eat Sushi at besides Sushi Samba. when you go in it looks like a town-house turned restaurant (im serious) you have the option of eating downstairs or up i prefer up because you have more of a secluded section or more intimate if your on a date. Here comes the cool part when your sitting on carpet on the floor and the waitress bends down to take your order.of course they have other options were you are sitting on chairs! enjoy!

    The Great White Tuna

Call me Ishmael if you must. But don't make the mistake of thinking I'm after a big white whale. This quest is about white tuna. White tuna is the most recent specialty item to hit sushi bars. Shibui in Miami began carrying it less than a year... More »
