Description

Amazingly delicious, fresh, tasty, inexpensive Indian and Pakistani food is the draw at these bare-bones establishments. You order at the counter, grab soft drinks and water pitchers from the refrigerator, and feast on succulent lamb stews, smoky tandoori dishes, and sophisticated vegetable dishes (our favorite is the ratatouille-like okra). Even the rice is special: full of the bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, and cloves that flavor it. If you like long-cooked meat, don't miss the nihari (beef shank).
