It shouldn't be too much of a shock that an establishment known for long lines, hot foot-longs, and the slogan "We Got Big Ones" exists somewhere in Miami. It is, however, a shocker to find out this place is a Cutler Bay eatery called Sgt. Pepper's Subs & Salads with a loyal following that has kept the small shop afloat for more than 20 years. It also shouldn't come as a surprise that owing to the success of this little-lunch-spot-that-could, a second location called Sgt. Pepper's Café has opened. The new locale, in downtown Dadeland, offers a larger variety than the original and adds some local flair to an area overrun by national restaurant chains. Adorned with flat-screens, a zigzag green tile counter, and eye-candy pop art, the spacious and stylish Kendall café serves grilled sandwiches made with Boar's Head meats ($4.99 to $8.99), individual pizzas ($6.95 to $14.99), panini ($6.99), and a beer of the month ($2). A plethora of quick breakfast options -- such as ham and egg sandwiches ($5.99), bagels ($1.95), fresh-squeezed juices ($4.95), and cereal and yogurt stations ($4.50 and $4.95) with choice of fruits and toppings -- is also available for on-the-go residents in this bustling minimetropolis. Parking is limited, and finding a spot during the lunch rush can be tricky, but there's always delivery. Try the Bob's Big Boy -- a garlicky roast beef creation with Muenster cheese and honey-smoked bacon ($8.99) -- and top it off with an oven-baked cookie ($2.25).
