Seward Café is about as eclectic as they come, with plants crowding windowsills, scribbles on the walls, and a do-it-yourself attitude. Community owned and run, vegan and vegetarian dishes are the focus here, making use of ingredients from a local farm. Seward is open for breakfast and lunch. Huevos rancheros and buckwheat pancakes are favorites in the morning, while a variety of mock meat sandwiches with fresh vegetables are popular in the afternoon. Customers place their orders on slips of paper, and the cook announces over loudspeaker when the meal is ready. All menu items are under $10, and portion sizes are generous. Plentiful seating is available inside or out in the backyard, and cell phone use is frowned upon.
