Description

Seattle Weekly's Description

The Hi-Life used to be an all ages music venue; now it's a restaurant/bar brought to you by the same folks who run Queen Anne's 5 Spot and West Seattle's Endolyne Joe's. Now there's no music but lots of food and drink, with half of its menu space devoted to a regionally themed rotating selection--in this case, Emilia-Romagna. It's a chill and cozy spot, with vaulted ceilings and mood lighting - and who doesn't like eating in a big brick fire station? Hit the bar on the restaurant's righthand side if you want to avoid the big family gatherings that frequent the dining room. The Hi-Life has local brews like Hale's and Boundary Bay on tap; during happy hour you can get delicious little woodfire pizzas with seasonal toppings for $4, and wells, wines, and drafts are all under $5.

I would definitely get "Clean-up on Aisle 12" - it's an awesome egg, beets, and polenta dish. You walk away satisfied!

My boyfriend and I stumbled in on Hi Life last Halloween when I first visited Seattle. We came in at an off time so there was plenty of seating and service was quick and attentive. Even more impressive was the food which changes regularly. The pasta components were are perfectly married in flavor, and the chicken melted in the mouth. I've been thinking about going back ever since I left.

  • The Seattle Times on 06/02/10

American-anchored menus influenced by the Mediterranean. 10-inch apple-wood-fired pizzas come out blistered and burnished, the thin crust still supple. Burgers and steaks benefit from the oven, too.

  • In Ballard on 06/24/11

Great seasonal menu for any mean, but truly one of the best breakfasts InBallard! Great food served in a building that has been both a fire station and music venue, Hi-Life is about as Ballard as it g
