Description

Seattle Weekly's Description

The best of the pancake mega-chains, Original Pancake House (founded in Portland in 1953) has built its empire on a Dutch baby, a baked pancake as big as a dinner plate, with crisp 4-inch-high sides and an eggy, poofy center. And yes, the pancake is that good, especially with lemon juice and powdered sugar on top. The house's knotty-pine paneling and country china help create a clean but not anonymous atmosphere. A Scandinavian tinge to the menu shows up in kijafa crepes filled with cherries simmered in sweet Danish wine. The rest of the breakfast fare is solid (ethereal pancakes, creamy eggs, boiled-and-then-fried hash browns); however, the bacon waffle scores three stars for ingenuity, two stars for bacon, and one star for mealy waffle.

Call ahead on Sat/Sun mornings to get added to the wait list. Then enjoy a FREE slice of Dutch Baby (apple tart) while you wait in the lobby.

The bacon waffle is delicious and affordable. Add a side of eggs and you're in breakfast heaven.

Ask for Lori. She is the best and nicest waitress *ever*

  • Nelson Y. on 04/03/10

Get their Corned Beef Hash, pricey at $11+ but its good!

Order the French Toast Combo($10 - off menu): french toast w/ powdered sugar, 2 eggs, and 2 bacon/sausage.
