Macrina Bakery & Cafe
Seattle, WA 98121
Seattle Weekly's Description
On weekend mornings at Belltown's Macrina Bakery, you'll find about 35 of the most coveted seats in town. Only so many people get a crack at the bialys (New York-style eggy bread with roasted onion) and strata (breakfast casserole, elevated), and boy, are those people lucky. The menu changes frequently, so it's never the same place twice, and that only adds to the allure. During the week, however, there's little problem getting to the wonderful variety of pastries, breads, and quiches that come out of Macrina's oven; at lunch, everyone breathes more easily, or perhaps they're sighing into their sandwiches, made with that gorgeous, airy-crusty bread.
Tips from foursquare
Faced by the opulent pastry display the minute you walk in the door, you can hardly resist taking some with you. Get anything that might grace a pastry case in Rome like jam-filled mezzaluna cookies.
the dill scone is the star here, and it is delicious plain. they sell it w cream cheese in the fridge, but it's overkill. the cold kills the delicate flakiness. also love the vanilla sugar for coffee!
Take your out-of-town guests here for brunch.
Mochas here are fantastic!
Check out the day old bread and pastries for half-off yumminess!
