Description

Ah, bar food. Wait -- this isn't your regular bar food. Does your neighborhood watering hole serve the best stuffed mushrooms ($7.95) you've ever tried? And when you walk into Scully's, it feels familiar. It has that Cheers look -- all wood, dark green, and brass. But when you bite into one of the cheeseburgers ($7.95), whether it's the American, Swiss, or Swiss and mushroom variety, you'll know it's is no ordinary bar. But any joint can serve a fantastic burger, you say. How about a delectable New York strip steak ($18.95) with soup or salad, potato, and vegetable? Wednesdays, the prime rib ($15.95), served with soup, salad, and two sides, attracts customers from across town. Of course, there are also chicken tenders ($6.50) and probably the most amazing nachos ($8.50) you've yet to taste. While you wait for your food, you can throw down on one of the two pool tables in the back. But make sure to leave enough room for dessert ($4.25 to $4.50), whether it's chocolate cake or an enormous slice of Scully's bread pudding.

Good luck lurks at Scully's Tavern in Kendall

Steve, a 34-year-old with a crewcut and pale skin that looks like it's been glazed a couple times with Crisco, blows some blue dust off the tip of a pool cue. He lines up the eight ball, hits the cue ball off-center, and scratches. "That," he... More »

  • 2009 | Best Bar Food

Leave it to Guy Fieri -- a cook who whips up dishes with names like "Tater Tot Halibut" prepared in a way that "would make your lunch lady proud" -- to find escargots served in mushroom caps ($8.95) at a Kendall bar. This is precisely what he did in an episode of his Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, drawing attention to the little Irish pub known for friendly service, boisterous weekend cover bands, and its Cheers-esque vibe. Other appetizer standouts include fried... More »

  • 2006 | Best Biker Bar

It's Thursday night, and outside Scully's Tavern a bevy of bearded, leather-clad bikers can be seen smoking cigarettes and knocking back brewskies as they admire the line of motorcycles surrounding the entrance. Some of the hogs sport as much bling as a tricked-out Chevy Monte Carlo, but most of them keep with the classic Harley look. Inside, burly dudes wrap their arms around their beer-swilling sweeties while singles eye-out potential hookups. A few scattered punk rockers can be found... More »

  • 2002 | BEST BAR FOOD

There are plenty of things to like about this down-home place aside from the food. The décor is appealing. Lots of old polished wood and other casually classy touches that project warmth, an antidote to the velvet-rope pretensions of South Beach. The weekend live rock music is much more interesting than what's usually found in nightclubs, and so is the clientele. But co-owners Cass and Chris are happy to admit it's the bar food that has kept the clientele coming back since 1989.... More »
