Owners Duc and Noelle Liao have their own little piece of Paris at this inconspicuous strip mall patisserie/café, where the vibe is hip and low-key. Bring a friend (or grab a magazine), sip some fragrant Mariage Frères tea, and tuck into luscious traditional pastries, from croissants and butter cookies to fabulous confections. It would be tempting to just fill up on sweets, but the menu includes fabulous quiches and rustic sandwiches, too. Très délicieux!

Ooh-la-la, we can't tell you how delighted we were when we discovered this honest-to-goodness French patisserie. Open since January, Scratch Pastries is a labor of love run by two Parisian transplants, Duc and Noelle Liao, who left behind glamorous careers (fashion photographer and model, respectively) in the City of Light to raise their family here. And we're so glad they did. Now we can hang out in their stylish, low-key cafe, sip Mariages Frères tea, and nibble on buttery, freshly made croissants, chewy macarons, and exquisite creations like the cream-filled strawberry-rose gateau or the matcha-flecked green tea fleur. They're all almost too pretty to eat. That's right, we said almost.
Awesome staff, and the most beautiful pastries I have ever seen.
Scratch is a bright and airy French cafe -- in a strip mall. We promise you'll forget your proximity to Subway as soon as you're in the door. The menu is populated with croque madames and savory crèpes oozing Comte, goat, and Brie cheeses. But the pièce de resistance (sorry, we did mention it's a French cafe, right?) is the glass pastry counter filled with raspberry and lemon tartes, French meringues, and gorgeous pyramids and domes made of chocolate. Even if you're not a... More »
