America's best-known purveyor of "mall pizza" got its start when the Sbarro family opened an Italian grocery store in Brooklyn. The real visionary move, however, came in 1967, when the family opened a pizza place in the King's Plaza Shopping Center, thus pioneering the mall concept and kick-starting a business that has since grown to include more than 1,000 locations, including outlets in many of the country's major airports. Fans of New York-style pies in Cleveland can get by-the-slice pizza, which over the years has evolved to include jalapeño pies along with the traditional pepperoni.
