Within the main entrance to the Missouri Botanical Garden, Sassafras gained fame as Missouri's first certified green restaurant back in 2008, meaning that Sassafras helps the environment with such efforts as using a skylight to conserve energy, recycling and avoiding Styrofoam use. The café has an indoor dining room as well as a patio for guests to enjoy the seasonal menus, which focus on soups, salads and sandwiches, such as the fall/winter offering, a Strassenfest bratwurst sandwich -- a Missouri bratwurst topped with Schlafly beer-braised onions on a pretzel roll.
