This successor to Carolina Country Kitchen -- named after an Ocean Hill Street, not the upstate racetrack -- excels at the kind of Carolina cuisine first brought by African Americans from the Deep South a century ago. The fried chicken is especially scrumptious, and you can often get it Harlem-style with a good waffle, freshly made, on the side. The smothered pork chops are another favorite, a thick piece of meat in brown gravy that lubricates, but does not nauseate. All the sides from the canon are available, including unfussy collards, mac and cheese, black-eyed peas, plus a few Caribbean interpolations like rice 'n peas.
