Description

The name means "Seven Hills," and this India Square spot mounts the most diverse and tasty vegetarian menu anywhere in the metropolitan area. The dosas are top notch, and encompass a range of oddities rarely seen elsewhere. An example is pesarattu upma, boasting a fermented mung-bean wrapper, and a filling of cream of wheat goosed up with black mustard seeds, pistachios, and other flavorful ingredients. The upma is also available as a dish on its own, and is definitely worth ordering. There are rare southern Indian vegetable curries, including gutti vankaya-baby eggplants immersed in a tomatoey peanut sauce. The place is crowded on the weekends, chill during the week.

Ever since the local debut of the potato-stuffed crepe known as masala dosa at Madras Woodlands—a franchise from India that lurked near the U.N. in the late '70s—southern Indian vegetarian cooking has gradually become more available in the metropo... More »
