Located in a small square shop in Bernal Heights, Sandbox Bakery offers a dizzying array of gourmet pastries. Customers are often greeted by owner and former Slanted Door pastry chef, Mutsumi Takehara, who creates tasty treats including buttery bread pudding and bacon/apple scones. Additionally, her Japanese heritage is evident with offerings like yuzu marmalade sage brioche and miso morning buns. Choose your coffee, Ritual or De La Paz; head in early to avoid lines; and beware - the bakery often sells out by midday.
