From the team behind Café Ventana and the reborn Chuy Arzola's comes a tapas bar with more Spanish influence than most such local restaurants. Chef Chris Lee offers small plates that range from simple pleasures, such as cornbread studded with jalapeños and slathered with honey butter to grilled lamb chops served with a sophisticated Bosc pear-pine nut salsa. "Wicked Good Shrimp" lives up to its name thanks to a garlicky, peppery tomato sauce that you will sop up with bread. Drinks from mixologist Matt Seiter touch upon both hip cocktails and the timeless pleasure of a great margarita.

Sanctuaria's Matt Seiter has been one of the leading lights of St. Louis' surging mixology scene for several years now, and people outside of town are starting to take notice: He was a finalist for the bartending contest at this year's "Paris of the Plains Cocktail Festival" in Kansas City, and last summer, the restaurant's "Cocktail Club" menu was one of four finalists for "World's Best Drink Selection" at the annual Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans. The club menu alone is... More »

Don't be scared off by the giant gothic-looking sign marking Sanctuaria's location in the Grove neighborhood -- or by the tag line of "Wild Tapas!" accompanying its name on that marquee. The flavors here may be bold, but the place itself is stylish and urbane. You could take a promising first date here or your most fabulous friend; as long as they like drinking and they like sharing, they'll have fun. As for drinking: The cocktails here really are to die for, with a neatly curated list... More »
Ask bartender/mixologist Matt Seiter to surprise you, and he probably will. His bar at Sancturia in the Grove neighborhood is stocked full of obscure bitters, fresh herbs and micro-distilled spirits that he uses to tease out nuances in both familiar favorites and new creations. To whip up his "autumn blush," for example, Seiter adds North Shore No. 11 gin to house-squeezed grape juice -- spiced with thyme, sage and cinnamon -- and then pours in lime juice and crème de... Sanctuaria does have GREAT decor but the tapas and cocktails is what I go there for! The menu says that everything is made fresh and I believe it. I even saw the bartender juicing carrots for their drink special that evening! Next time I go is going to be for Happy Hour to get half off select tapas!
Great tapas!
Great tapas and a unique atmosphere. They have some of the most unique artwork I've ever seen on Restaurant walls. Good patio too!
