SF Weekly's Description

The puffy, slightly pear-shaped popovers that arrive with your cocktail aren't the most memorable aspect of a meal at celebrity chef Tyler Florence's Wayfare Tavern. Conceived as a fancy turn-of-the-20th-century American bar in the Financial District, the multistoried restaurant's menu includes a brawny Hangtown Fry; unctuous steak tartare; fried chicken; with unfussy slabs of meat and fish aplenty. Its rooms hum with business lunches and stylish imbibers. There are heirloom tomatoes on your plate, rustic antlers on the wall, and a whole lot of iPhones blinking. It's old California, rendered all splashy and new.

  • Eater on 07/27/11

It’s hard to have a bad time at this frisky FiDi hotspot where solid renditions of Southern and San Francisco classics meet impressive cocktails. [Eater 38 Member]

  • Bon Appetit Magazine on 03/30/11

Try a variety of nostalgic menu items like abalone, Dungeness crab, and the Gold-Rush-era Hangtown Fry, blending local eggs and bacon with fried oysters.

  • AskMen on 07/09/10

Start with the baked avocado with crab & bacon on top & end with 21-day dry-aged grass-fed sirloin, & sit at the chef's counter to see Florence run his new Financial District place like clockwork.

  • Food Network on 01/18/11

Wayfare Tavern, Tyler Florence's first signature restaurant in San Francisco, CA, serves delicious dishes like Sonoma Pork Belly and Poutine.
