Description

SF Weekly's Description

For more than a century, locals and tourists alike have been heading out to the edge of the continent for that dazzling panorama of coastline, sunsets, and limitless Pacific …and the food and drink that goes with it. The Cliff House is a San Francisco classic, especially striking after a 2002-'04 renovation project that gave it a sweeping, light-filled Art Deco ocean-liner ambience. The Outer Richmond space hosts two dining venues, the casual first-come first-served Cliff House Bistro (chowder, burgers, crab Louis, cioppino), and the more elegant reservations-only Sutro's (bouillabaisse, tuna tartare, filet mignon, and the like). Both offer timeless floor-to-ceiling vistas of Seal Rocks, the Golden Gate, the occasional migrating whale, and ships disappearing into the horizon.

Tips from foursquare

  • Go down to the viewing area in front of Cliff House. There are fantastic vantages of the ocean, the beach, as well as some interesting rock formations.

Don’t leave without checking out the giant camera obscura downstairs and outside. You can see 360 degrees of spectacular live images of the Seal Rock Area and Ocean Beach.Powered by ParentsConnect.c

$3 Moonlight Martinis featuring Skyy Vodka and Tanqueray Gin. This deal runs Sunday – Thursday, 6pm-9pm. Tuesdays feature a Wine Lover’s promotion, half priced bottles of wine all day long.

  • Travel + Leisure on 07/30/12

Don’t leave without checking out the restaurant’s world-famous camera obscura (one of about 20 in existence), with 360 degrees of live images projected from a nearby seal rock.
