Description

SF Weekly's Description

This venerable (since 1938) San Francisco eatery off Union Square has been thoughtfully refurbished (vintage tile floors, real antiques, mellow lighting) and is once again an excellent place for classic American breakfasts (served until 3 p.m.) and simple lunches and dinners. The "world-famous Swedish pancakes" - 18 thin dollhouse-size cakes - are served with real maple syrup.

If it's breakfast you desire, this is the best breakfast spot in the city right off of Union Square next to the Chancellor Hotel.

Get the Al's Special. The corned beef hash is great!

  • Giselle P. on 06/22/10

Ask for the 18 swedish pancakes!

  • Brady F. on 11/27/11

Al's special lets you enjoy their famous silver dollar pancakes, packed with their famous corn beef hash. Give in.

This has got to be the BEST breakfast in town and the perfect way to start the day. The corned beef hash is amazing but be sure to bring your appetite!
