SF Weekly's Description

This charming spot, up a flight of stairs on the second story of a homey old building in the Castro, is one of the best dining options in the area, and worth a trip to sample its Calabrian cooking. The golden walls of Poesia (home to paintings and silent projections of Italian films) are a warm backdrop for the frequently changing menu. It usually offers four antipasti, four insalate and zuppe, four pasta dishes, and four secondi, or meat or fish dishes. Everything is homemade, and everything, including the exceptionally good Italian bread and the well-balanced salads, is not only thoughtfully prepared but also tastes authentically Italian.

This Castro hot spot is known for its good-looking staff… as if Lucrezia needed another reason to re-think her marriage.

    Filet mignon carpaccio is fantastic!

The food is genuinely Roman Italian as I remember it served in Rome.

It's a small place with amazing food and ambiance. Roman Holiday was being projected on the wall. Make a reservation. Start with the Pappa al Pomodoro.
