To see Oye! Managua at its most festive, hit this Nicaraguan restaurant - one of only a handful in San Francisco - on a Sunday lunchtime. While a keyboard player entertains diners, septuagenarians in leopard-print dresses or fedora reign over the bar and groups of men in their 30s gather over platters of grilled steak and gallo pinto (fried rice and beans). Perennially festive are the Technicolor seaside murals around the room, and the painted dolphins and sea turtles swimming across the ceiling. Oye! Managua is the place to go for chancho frito (marinated, fried pork) served with ripe plantains, fried cheese, and a mound of cabbage slaw. While the soups and indio viejo (beef-cornmeal stew) aren"t compelling, the grill is tended with skill, producing tender carne asada and chicken - served either by itself or smothered in a creamy salsa jalapeña - so juicy it bespeaks brining.

This is my families spot to go. My hubby is NICOYA and it brings him a lil bit of home. We love the owners and there grandson, we are treated like family and Marie Elena plate & Cacao is Perfecto.
Wow, the sampler plate was enough for 4 people!
