Live Sushi Bar
San Francisco, CA 94103
SF Weekly's Description
Although the name (Live Sushi Bar) evokes squiggling tentacles and tanks of sparkling fish, all the sushi at this Potrero Hill joint is sliced and still â that is, with the exception of the scallops and the uni, which arrive "on the shell." Some customers a this Japanese spot accompany their sake bombs and beers with tasty, but inauthentic rolls â the Philadelphia Roll (cream cheese and lox), the SFPD Roll, the Behind the Green Door Roll, and so forth â but others order up fried chicken appetizers, ramen variations, and Kobe beef preparations as well. Live is owned by a former chef at Ebisu, and that restaurant's fans often stop by when they're in the neighborhood.
Tips from foursquare
the live scallop cannot be missed
Live Uni, blue shrimp and amaebi nigiris are amazing!! Love aji tataki and scallop mini burgers. Chefs special oysters are great too.
Have sushi chef Jackson just make up a roll. It's always good.
All of their rolls that have some tempura component are awesome. Try the #29 roll, f'rinstance. Oh, and the $9 sake flight is a great accompaniment, too.
fan of the uni and quail egg handrolls.
