SF Weekly's Description

This Austrian restaurant in Russian Hill can't have gauged the neighborhood more astutely: The mood is casual and celebratory, burnished with enough European-ness to spark nostalgia for a thousand summer trips. Same with the entrée prices, which average $15; the solid but not gut-busting food, which is often quite good; and the neighborhood appeal of giant steins of beer (including a popular two-liter glass boot). With the exception of unctuous, crisp-edged pork trotter cakes, owners Karl and Albert Rainer bring out the fresher, bright side of Austrian cuisine: excellent roasted-vegetable strudel, a roasted beet salad garnished with toasted walnuts, oilless schnitzel, gossamer spaetzle. And the German and Belgian beer list is worth tasting your way through, provided you do it in normal-sized glasses.

7x7's Big Eat 2012 says the chicken soup with dumplings is delicious. Yum!

    Great beer!!

Beautiful interior (looks authentic), good service and food quality & beer selection are great, too. Only issue: The food selection was a bit limited: No sausages, Obatzda or Leberkaes on the menue.

  • The Bold Italic on 06/16/11

Drink up! Leopold's offers 1/2 liter & liter glasses, two-liter boots, and steins in three and five-liter sizes! Try the Crispy Pig Trotters appetizer and save room for apfelstrudel.

The wiener Schnitzel, which is made from pork but is so tender I thought it was calbsfleisch! (baby veal) They say their prep is a secret...top w/several Spatens! Owner claims German pretzels to come!
