SF Weekly's Description

This landmark restaurant claims to be "home of the Maltese Falcon" - due to the fact that Dashiell Hammett was a John's Grill regular during the time he penned the iconic detective novel - and the building's second floor is a veritable shrine to Dash, Bogey, and the famous bird itself. The bar also features local jazz guitarists nightly, while the menu is rich with meaty American classics (including the Sam Spade Lamb Chops, of course). Like Spade himself says, it's "the stuff that dreams are made of."

Has been our favorite restaurant in SF for over 25 years. Just got back from a trip to SF and one of our favorite bartenders, Luis, was still there. It was great to see him after 7 years. Got a Maltese Falcon and made some new friends.

    Find the Maltese Falcon.

Sure it's 36 bucks for a steak but the price includes a kick to a vegans face!

The Sam Spade chops are not just a tourist trick. Tender and tasty!

Everything's fine! Tasteful food, live jazz! Special thanks for seafood pasta!! :) Restoran with great history! Open since 1908.

The Jack Lalanne salad is absolutely amazing and big enough for two. The lobster ravioli and chef's special red snapper are also superb.
