Hillbilly Hootenanny West Side Revue

7:30 p.m. first Sun. of every month @ The Riptide

The Outer Sunset is typically known for only a few things: surfing and fog. But recently the neighborhood has experienced a small revitalization in the form of local hotspots like Trouble Coffee, General Store, and Outerlands. This isn't to say that the area's long-established locales are going out of style. The Riptide is one of the neighborhood's oldest bars (built in 1941), and has a small town lodge feel with its brick floors, wooden walls, and roaring fireplace. Located just a few steps from the beach (hence the bar's motto "On the Edge of the Western World"), the bar's intimate setting is complemented by the colorful cast of locals. And every first Sunday of the month, the bar hosts the The Hillbilly Hootenanny West Side Revue, a combination of the best local and touring live acts in Americana, Hillbilly, Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, and Country, and backed by a full band. Hosted by "Quarterman" Jack Champion, the show has been known to feature over 20 acts in one night, and you never know which famous touring artists might be stopping by unannounced.
