SF Weekly's Description
They say a rising tide lifts all boats - and the cost of living in this particular neighborhood has certainly been on the rise in recent years - but in spite of its name, the High Tide has paradoxically decided to keep its profile low while the rest of the area goes upscale. The High Tide remains an ultra-casual lowbrow destination, defined by kitschy fake-brick walls, '60s vintage lamps, and a no-frills pool room. This is a place for basic beers and well drinks like your grandparents used to drink, not infused organic liquors and others flavors of the month. Of course, it may eventually end up emulating its trendier neighbors (e.g., Ambassador, Bourbon & Branch, Jones, Rye, Swig, et al) - but for now the High Tide seems content with kicking it old-school.
Tips from foursquare
this is the awesome-est dive bar, ever.
Check out the painting over the back counter. The rumor is it is a portrait of the owner.
Also, sit under "Eugene" and stare at her boobs.
Bartender "Who next, you order drink now"
The bartender is like a protective mother hen. If a creeper comes and hits on you, she'll shoo him away if you give her a pleading look. And then she'll get you drunk.
