SF Weekly's Description

Herbivore - The Earthly Grill doesn't stick to any cuisine in particular, but its fans--mostly vegans and their less hardcore vegetarian cousins--don't mind. From the burrito to the shawarma to lasagna, the formula is simple: take a dish associated with a specific culinary tradition, subtract meat, and add seitan, tofu, or tempeh. (The results vary in quality.) The interior of this Mission District branch of a local restaurant group is spruced up, but the sunny tables outside make for better people-watching.

Tips from foursquare

  • Melissa G. on 04/16/11

    Veggie burger goodness

  • Jonathan S. on 10/17/10

The vegan carrot cake is insanely good.

  • Nate K. on 02/22/10

Grilled seitan shawarma with potato, eggplant, and hot sauce.

  • Dustin S. on 11/06/11

The green salad with "chicken" is amazing. Get the small as the large would feed 1.5 people comfortably.

  • Sarah S. on 05/11/11

So much delicious food! Marinated tofu sandwich was amazing and their potatoes are to die for.
