Description

SF Weekly's Description

Hamano is a friendly neighborhood Japanese joint. Try the consistently great staples like tempura, salmon teriyaki, and seaweed salad, or choose from rolls like the snazzy 24th Street (fried crab salad topped with colorful rice puffs) or the Sunset (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and ooba topped with seared salmon), or let the chef choose a sashimi combo. Vegetarians, rejoice: Hamano serves a wide variety of veggie and tofu items.

Tucked away in quiet Noe Valley, where you might actually be able to find a parking space, is a quiet, well-run, nonhipster, comfy if underdecorated Japanese restaurant and sushi bar. The large and reasonably priced menu offers more than two dozen kinds of nigiri sushi (plus nightly specials) and another 20 maki rolls, vegetable sushi, nicely prepared tempura, yakitori, and... Fresh sashimi at very reasonable prices. Combos and lunch specials are all great. Good for parties also..they do custom party trays, sushi, teriyaki and more...YUM!

    Danger: LIGHT JAZZ!

Sit at the sushi bar and ask for whatever's good that night. Jiro, Jimmy, or John will take good care of you.

Get their rebate card. It costs a dollar, but then you basically get 10% off ($5 back for every $50 you spend).

The food is fine but the lighting reminds me of a Denny's. The floors are carpeted and they play light jazz.... I felt like I was in Wisconsin.
