SF Weekly's Description
As the oldest Italian restaurant in the United States (the place predates the 1906 earthquake by 20 years), Fior d'Italia has a whole lot of tradition to uphold. Its location in the venerable San Remo Hotel has that Old-School North Beach look - pressed-tin ceiling, colorful murals, ancient polished-mahogany bar - and the mood is warm and welcoming. The extensive menu showcases an abondanza of S.F. Italian classics: rabbit stew, chicken livers and mushrooms, polenta with oxtails, marsala-stoked zabaglione. Starched napery and fresh flowers adorn every table, but there's nothing snooty about this classic.
Tips from foursquare
Happy Hour Mon-Fri 4-7, Sat-Sun 2-7... $3 beers, well drinks, wine, and small plates!
Prosciutto and cantaloupe, tortellini alfredo, osso buco and polenta. Delizioso! Attentive service. Since 1886.
The best gnocci, tortelini and pesto I ever had! Great servers...overall amazing restaurant!
Try the Negroni (via @Foodspotting)
The service here is unbeatable ... forget that nonsense on Yelp! Ask for Lalo!
