SF Weekly's Description

The theme of this lovely izakaya-style restaurant seems to be petrified forest, a space where aged wood segues into poured concrete and the gray of fog meets the gray of slate. Chotto's menu of three-bite dishes is arranged from sashimi and salads to grilled fish and red meat. Chef Armando Justo segues easily between classic Japanese and Western flavors, and does some beautiful things with a charcoal grill: Mackerel fillets come off the fire all crackling edges and buttery flesh; skewered chicken meatballs (tsukune) are punctuated by the airy crunch of water chestnuts; pork ribs with a caramelized miso glaze barely cling to the bone.

Chotto promises the experience of a genuine izakaya-a Japanese post-work/pre-karaoke rallying point for filling up on beer, hard-to-find sake, small plates & lots of fried & skewered Japanese pub grub

Bacon mochi is not overrated! Get it.

This is the best Japanese Restaurant in the city. Sit at the bar Friday-Sunday and indulge yourself in food and culture with Kasu and the gang!

Tontorro (pork cheek) is the shit

  • W Z. on 07/18/13

The spicy ramen is a must have. The broth itself is so tasty i'd drink a bowl without the awesome noodles and toppings. The pork is so smokey and tender! The bacon mochi was strange and delish too!
