Description

SF Weekly's Description

The ambitions of this small, stylish spot are much more modest than at owner Gerald Hirigoyen's Piperade, but the food is as big in flavor. The lunch menu is mostly bocadillos, small but hearty sandwiches you order two at a time from a list of a dozen; at night, the menu is mostly tapas. Hirigoyen's patatas bravas, crisp potatoes covered in a fiendish sauce, are on most of the tables; steak a la plancha, roasted mushrooms with garlic, and the robust house-made chorizo are good accompaniments for a spicy ribera del duero.

Tips from foursquare

  • Epicurious on 08/25/10

Tapas are perfect any time of the day at this venue. Try baked eggs with chorizo and Manchego for breakfast, grilled ham and cheese bocadillos at noon, and sautéed pimientos de pardon for latenight.

  • Try the lamb burger or the daily specials. Most lunch dishes range from $7 to $17. Tip: For you techies with laptops, the restaurant is quiet and the servers don't mind if you linger.

  • Rafael Q. on 03/31/11

Fried chicken with Asian pears and walnuts is deeeelishious.

  • Kristen M. on 02/03/10

Great iced lattes, even better turkey cranberry bocadillos and don't get me started on the arm of gypsy.

  • Sam H. on 08/13/13

Notice: this tasteful slice of the Basque Country is BLADE FRIENDLY!
