Description

Sam's Grill has been at its present location, anchoring the corner of restaurant-laden Belden Place and Bush Street, since 1946, but its history dates back to 1867. Enjoy a traditional American and Continental menu in a classic wood-paneled setting featuring private booths. As well as steaks, chops, and fresh seafood, Sam's offers pastas and salads. Among its specialties are such rarely seen dishes as mock turtle soup, deviled crab a la Sam, poached salmon with egg sauce, filet of sole a la Marguery, sweetbreads, and Hang Town Fry.

Later in life we realized that the waitstaffs at all of San Francisco's old-time Financial District restaurants -- Tadich's, John's Grill, et al. -- are entirely built upon that... More »

I've always been attracted to the science-fiction mainstay of time travel. In fact, I practice it frequently. Pace H.G. Wells, I employ no high-tech machinery. Though I give points to Jack Finney for setting up his hero in a posh apartment in the ... More »

This place is old school SF dining at its best. Perfect for a lunch meeting, highly recommend the swordfish.
