Ignore the jerk chicken skewers and you've got yourself a fairly interesting pan-Latin eatery. It's owned by the folks who run T.G.I. Friday's, but ironically it's not nearly as efficient. Regardless, this burgeoning chain caters to the Latin palate with imagination and flair, serving dishes such as arepas with queso blanco and shredded beef, ropa vieja sandwiches, fried Brazilian calamari, and recado-rubbed roast chicken with rum-vanilla mashed boniatos (white sweet potatoes).
Located right smack in the heart of the downtown business section, it's rather high class place but casual dress accepted. The service is good and though the food is pricey, it is actually a good value for what you get. They have some of the best cerviche I've ever had, and the service staff is totally professional.

Location, location, location. Oh yeah, and a few other things, like live Latin music and $6 mojitos make Samba Room the hot spot in which to unwind after a long day of white-collar work. The restaurant and lounge with inviting patio furniture in the heart of Fort Lauderdale's downtown cuts its already reasonable drink prices in half between 4 and 7 p.m. What that means is Sangria for $2.50, a Melon Drop with Ketel One Citroen Vodka for $3.75, or a Key Lime Margarita with Sauza Gold Tequila... OK, so it's not much of a chain -- yet. This pan-Latin eatery, a conceptual sibling to T.G.I. Friday's, has only two other locations nationwide. Still, more are planned, including two in South Florida, and they're so uniquely suited to our region that we have no problem looking forward to more. Like everyday life in multicultural South Florida, the Samba Room menu puts various Hispanic dishes side by side regardless of country of origin.
