I went thinking I was just going to bet on a simple horse race, but as it turns out, they were having camel and ostrich races that night, too. This place was HUGE with lots of beer and food concessions and betting areas. I was a total newb so I had no idea what I was doing. A few nice people offered to teach me what to do, but their explanations were a little complicated. Luckily for me I found out they have a room just for newbies where a guy teaches you how to make bets. I didn't know it, but you can make bets on any horse race in the country from SHRP! The newbie helper was very nice and helped me place bets on horses, camels and ostriches (none of which I won). There is outdoor and indoor seating, and plenty of restrooms. The horses were fun, but the camels and ostriches were great to watch. The minute the ostrich races started, half the ostriches flopped down and threw their jockeys off, then ran the rest of the race solo. No one was hurt, and I heard that was quite common for the ostriches to do. It was absolutely packed though so if you go on camel/ostrich night, go early! I had a great time and will go back again.
Horse racing, food, beer and live concerts. What else is there to say…
Can't wait. Going to see the Counting Crows on August 1, 2009. I am so excited. Big Fan. Love Adam Duritz. I have only been to the race park once to attend a company dinner. It was fun and I even won a couple of bucks betting on the horses. I would recommend for someone looking for something different to do. Just gamble responsibly.
