Salva Mex sells more than Salvadoran food. There are the piñatas wrapped in plastic, as are the statues of la virgen. The bags of chiles and corn ground for atole stacked up on the plain white shelves. And the menu is fleshed out with menudo, birria, mole, and other Mexican fare. But Salva Mex's antojitos salvadoreños are the real deal. Order fat pupusas oozing cheese and chopped pork, a caldo do res so hearty it'll add five years to your life, golden plantains served with refried beans and a pool of sour cream, and fried empanadas stuffed with sausage and potatoes.
