Description

Salsa a la Salsa is famous for its margaritas. The restaurant"s recipe aims to master a mix of sweet and sour tastes with fresh lime juice and house tequila in sizable 16-ounce glasses. Regulars also like the warm cactus chicken salad, which consists of sautéed cactus leaves tossed with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, chicken, avocado, and queso. The restaurant aims to keep the place as comfortable as possible, which is why they keep the prices competitive ($9 to $13) and build a fire in winter.

  • 2011 | Best Mexican Restaurant

The brightly colored interior of Salsa a la Salsa practically demands that you order a margarita as soon as you enter the restaurant (cool breeze not included). And why not Margarita fans will be impressed with the extensive list of tequilas, and abstainers can indulge in the full-sugar flavor of a Mexican Coca-Cola. The family-owned Salsa a la Salsa is known for its fresh ingredients (the orange jicama salad is a simple and refreshing way to start your meal) and its creativity. Consider... More »

  • 2008 | BEST MARGARITA

The origins of the margarita are hazy at best. Some say it was invented in Galveston in 1948 for Peggy Lee; others contend that Margaret Sames made up the cocktail in Acapulco. There's a bit of disagreement as to how the drink ought be made as well, from debates about rim salt to the proper ratio of ingredients. The International Bartenders Association specifies seven parts tequila, four parts Triple Sec, and three parts lime juice. We're not sure the family-owned and -operated Salsa a la... More »

  • 2007 | BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT

A perennial favorite for its novel, fresh, healthy dishes, bracingly tangy margaritas, and color-saturated decor, Eat Street's Salsa a la Salsa has new competition this year--from its own outpost of the same name opened in the mercifully quiet northwest corner of the Midtown Global Market. The menu here has all of the creative preparations on offer at the original: blackened salmon tatemado, served on red and green sauces ($10.50); chicken mixotes with limey, tender cactus strips and... • 2005 | BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT

What a welcome sight is the Meyer lemon-yellow facade of this family-run Nicollet Avenue storefront. Yes, yes, it's a slice of warmer climes on Minnesota winter nights. And it's a pretty jolt of style in the middle of a culinarily distinguished but aesthetically challenged block. But to those of us who've become frequent visitors to Salsa a la Salsa, the vibrant wrapper also telegraphs the bright, fresh tastes offered up within. You can get a chimichanga here, but you can get a chimichanga... More »

  • 2004 | BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT

You know that thing about computer speed, how it doubles every six months So it is with Mexican restaurants in Minnesota. It seems that every six months the Mexican restaurants around here are twice as good, in twice as many ways, as they just, just were. We never had any Mexican places with breathtaking, and breathtakingly cheap stews and sauces, but now there's Pineda 2. We never had any cathedral-ceilinged Mexican places gorgeously decorated to look like outdoor piazzas, but now there's... More »

Salsa A La Salsa Mexican Grill 1420 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis 612.813.1970 Hey, do you remember the past? No, not that unfortunate episode with the rodeo clown when you lost your favorite shoes, the tamale-relevant parts, I mean. Do you? I... More »
