Sali’s Pizza and Pasta specializes in New York-style pies, because have you ever met anyone named Sali who wasn’t from New York? (Then again, have you ever met anyone named Sali at all?) Monikers aside, Sali’s has been serving pizza, pasta and calzones to legions of loyal Garland customers for decades. The decor is typical strip mall Italian joint -- you know, acoustic ceiling tiles, faux columns, fake plants and Tuscan murals -- and the food follows along the same lines: floppy-but-crisp-crusted pizzas that are also available by the slice; pastas like lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo and lobster ravioli; salads with a tomato-y house-made vinaigrette; and, best of all, fluffy, yeasty garlic rolls that come free with most of the entrees. Alas, Sali does not deliver. As Garland is one of the few municipalities that still permits smoking in restaurants, nonsmokers may wish to carry out rather than dine in.
