Fine new ethnic addition to the Kierland Commons-Scottsdale Airport dining scene. Nice, non-divey environs combined with an array of offerings from Vietnam's cornucopia of culinary influences make for one little gem of a place. Egg rolls, spring rolls and pho are all tasty, but the hot-and-sour soup and the papaya shrimp salad are knock-your-shorts-off yum. Far from perfect, but on the way to perfection. Get to know the place while the getting's good.
These people don't even deserve the one star required in order to post this rating. Both me and my family have been giving our business to this family owned restaurant for years -- even before THEY GOT SHUT DOWN FOR HEALTH CODE & FOOD SERVICE VIOLATIONS -- but never again will we give a dime of our hard earned money to support this restaurant. We are small business owners also (in retail), so we know how hard it can be, which is why after our experience with Saigon Nites both today & as an overall experience, that I do not feel bad about posting our negative experience in a public domain for others to read. TRY TEA LIGHT CAFE if you want friendly service from a family owned Vietnamese restaurant.
We waited over an hour for our food to be served & once brought to us, ALL OF THE CHICKEN ON OUR PLATES WAS RAW. LIKE BLOODY RAW. The very rude female owner (which has been mentioned previously by other posters) flat out refused to fix the order. The female owner said we can have soup instead. Problem is, we don't want soup & we didn't order soup. When we again asked her to *please* (emphasis on please because we are polite people) just replace the plates, she responded: "That too much work. I don't know what to tell you." She then just turned around & walked away before we could say anything else & left us with our raw chicken plates. Not only did they serve us raw chicken and refused to fix our order, but then they also billed us for our order. After waiting 20 minutes to get our check, we finally get it. I write a note on the bottom voicing my concerns about our service, but they never come back by to pick up the check. So I get sick of waiting & decide I'm just going to bring the check to them. The female reads the note I wrote (which I don't care -- confrontation doesn't scare me), then intentionally throws it in the garbage right in front of me. Clearly these people don't give a damn about their customers, which is what makes a business. We paid the bill & left without ever eating. We will never return to this restaurant. MY ADVICE TO ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR FOOD IS TO FILE A COMPLAINT. Here is the website to do so: http://www.maricopa.gov/EnvSvc/Complaints/Forms/ComplaintInput.aspx
The food is great, but heaven forbid they get something wrong with your order, and you have to deal with the FEMALE OWNER, who will give you the hardest time and deny any wrong doing. We ordered vegitarian spring rolls along with their soup to go, but when we got home we found shrimp spring rolls in the bag. Two days later we ate there, when we mentioned the previous screwup to the FEMALE OWNER, she denied remembering me come in ( I told her I had to call her on the telephone because there was no one at the register for over five minutes, how could you forget that?) and her husband who had answered the phone never works at night, (funny, I've only gone there at night, and just about every time he was there plus he took my order the night of the take-out). Needless to say, we will not be returning there because of her attitude.
Nineteenth-century journalist, poet and author Charles Pierre Monselet once stated that "a true gastronome should always be ready to eat, just as a soldier should always be ready to fight." How right you were, Chuckles, but of course, it doesn't... More »
