Pick this Midwood Turk and enjoy the bizarre wall-sized mural (bigger-than-life tents, camels, and belly-dancers) in addition to some of the best kebabs in town. Our favorite is the beyti kebab-lamb with sweet and hot red peppers chopped using an ancient method featuring a chef brandishing a dangerous knife in each hand. The meze (mainly vegetarian appetizers) are fresh and well prepared, and even the charcoal-grilled poultry is still moist and flavorful. Formerly known as Sahara Palace, it's one of the top Turks in town, and considerably cheaper than most.
Sahara is the city's premier Turkish restaurant, offering a menu that's grown over the last decade to include one of the broadest lists of kebabs. A couple of years ago a renovation added a vast backyard garden to the two dining rooms, and now you can sit under a grape arbor and enjoy warm-weather favorites like pan-fried eggplant with yogurt, grilled lamb chops, and ezme, a fiery dip of pureed red bell peppers and green chiles, chased with a glass of raka.
