Sae Jong Kwan doesn't look promising from the parking lot. The windows are covered with paper that's lettered in Korean, and the lights behind those windows are dim. Once inside, you may not feel much more welcome: A hostess won't immediately greet you, and the space is sparsely decorated, if crammed with tables (those with grills are located behind a divider wall). But once you're seated, a large, cold Hite beer helps take the edge off, and the food does the rest -- because everything at this eatery is stellar, from garlic-tinged pork bulgogi to some of the hottest kimchi in Denver to bibim naeng myun, fiery cold noodles topped with Asian pear.

  • 2008 | Best Korean BBQ

What's called "Korean BBQ" isn't really barbecue by the traditional American definition, but grilled meats (and assorted other things) served family style and generally cooked on a tabletop grill. But it's just as addictive as the American... More >

  • Sae Jong Kwan doesn't look promising, but packs the heat

For the past few years, when the first whispers of warm weather stirred my annual craving for bibim naeng myun, I inevitably made a beeline straight for Silla, which served what I thought might be the best version of the cold buckwheat noodle dish... More >

I've always had trouble with holidays. I don't like the pressure, the expectations; I'm just bad at them. One of the many reasons I took such comfort in the restaurant business was because holidays really didn't exist within its cloisters. Cooks c... More >

I've tried a few different Korean BBQ restaurants but I always manage to come back to House of Korean. The food is fresh and the waiters are nice. The decor is so elaborate and you always notice something new when you go even though they haven't touched a thing.

This is THE Korean BBQ in the Denver metro area. If oyu've never HAD Korean BBQ, just get 2-3 other friends together, go here, sit down, and ask for an order of Bulgogi, (marinated rib eye steak), and Kalbi, (marinated ribs, cut off the bones right in fornt of you, tableside), and then they'll cook it right in front of you on the table, and deiliver some tasty side items adn lettuce leaves...you make lettuce wraps while sampling all the wonderful condiments and rice, and marinated meats and wrapping them up together in BLISS! Not hot, not spicy...slightly sweet, mild, and wonderful textures and tastes that marry together in ways you wouldn't imagine! CHECK IT OUT-you WON'T be let down!!!

Korean barbecue isn't barbecue at all by the traditional definition — but when it's as good as what's called barbecue at Sae Jong Kwan, who stands on ceremony? Sae Jong Kwan (aka: House of Korean BBQ) is almost a gastronaut hideout, a spot where adventurous eaters gather to stuff themselves with meats and vegetables and other odds and ends all cooked on the little barbecue grills built right into the tables. Join the fun: Bring a bunch of friends, order a bunch of drinks (because there's nothing more adventurous than mixing alcohol and an open grill) and let one of the helpful servers be your guide through the long, detailed and very traditional menu.

Even if you're not a huge fan of Asian the experience is worth it. Plus the meat and veggies grilled on the Korean BBQ at your table is amazing. Go wtih someone who knows or just ask the staff.

Spareribs, pork belly, thin sliced beef, bulgogi, bibimbob and more. In-table grills allow you to grill your meat the way you like it. One of the only places that carries Ob beer and soju to enjoy with your meal as well.
